Our Great Adventure Begins

Photo from Susan's Story, Frontenac

Hugh had a medical meeting in Quebec City and of course I chose to go along. We flew from Charlotte to Montreal where we had to change planes. We had close connections and they walked us to this small plane and we boarded. We were all settled in and 2 other people came with boarding passes for the same seats. The stewardess came and they had put us on the wrong plane. We quickly deplaned and they hurried us to the right small plane and we were on our way. It was late when we arrived and the only thing we saw memorable were the lights from the Frontenac Hotel.

Our hotel was well located and it appears we can walk to the old town and to most of the sights. This trip allowed us a good bit of free time and we visited the Fortifications of Quebec; this is the only fortified city in North America north of Mexico. We walked around the walls and enjoyed the stories. We had coffee in the Frontenac, couldn't afford anything else and strolled around Parliament Hill enjoying the gorgeous fountain that won awards at the Paris World Fair. We bought bracelets for the Quebec Summer Festival and attended concerts, plays, and watched a lot of the street performances associated with this event. It was well worth the price of admission, just show your bracelet and go on in.

One day we spent the whole day on a cruise on the St. Lawrence. We had lunch on board and the history and scenery were both extremely enjoyable. We went to Montmorency Falls and arrived back in time for a fantastic dinner. This turned out to be a culinary trip for us. The exchange rate was fabulous and we took advantage of it trying new restaurant each evening and indulging in some of the exotic offerings for desserts and spiked coffees. This was such a great trip we hated when we had to board the plane for home--but we did get on the correct one this time!
